Our Vision and Values

Imperial College London Mathematics School is a specialist maths school for 16 to 19 year olds in partnership with Imperial College London and Woodhouse College. We are planning to open for our first group of Year 12 students in September 2023 on a site adjacent to Woodhouse College in Barnet, North London. Our aim is to ensure that young people of all backgrounds have the chance to succeed in careers in mathematics and science.

Our vision is:

  • to provide a high-quality education where students and staff are passionate about their subjects, explore ideas, develop fluency and understanding, and have the ability to solve problems
  • to use the love and enjoyment of mathematics as a pathway to future opportunities
  • to ensure that a young person's background is no barrier to their success in mathematics and science
  • to ensure we contribute to a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) sector that is representative of the wider society
  • to give students the wide-ranging skills and knowledge to expand their horizons and access highly competitive universities and future career pathways
  • to develop students' independence, communication skills, and self-confidence.

Our values are:

  • to work hard and expect high standards of our community
  • to rigorously assess students' skills and knowledge so that they continually improve
  • to ensure no student is left behind
  • to always be curious and recognise the value of lifelong learning for all members of the ICLMS community
  • to challenge ourselves academically, take risks, and put ourselves outside our comfort zones
  • to be a compassionate, inclusive community, where everyone feels welcome and supported.
